On the 9th of August, Oman celebrates the end of Ramadan. This ‘Feast of Breaking the Fast’ is celebrated for three days.
For this occasion, mostly before the last ten days of Ramadan, women shop till they drop. Every piece of cloth for the women and for their children has to be new. Textiles and embroidered patterns for stitching dresses or abaya’s are bought.

The agenda of the beauty parlors are full booked, for hair dressing and for designs in black and brown henna on feet, hands and arms. On top jewelry and new handbags are bought.

For their head men chooses a new masar (turban) in high quality soft cashmere with embroided patterns, or a new kuma (cap). Their feet are placed in new sandals and a new dishdash finishes it off. Perfumes are applied.
‘Eid al Fitr’ is a family feast of joy, with a special Salat or Islamic prayer and full of charity. Every one wishes ‘Eid Mubarak’ or ‘Blessed Eid.’ In Salalah, Dhofar with the unique phenomenon of the Khareef or the south-west monsoon, the Salalah Tourism Festival starts up.
