Taking care

For the first time in Salalah, Dhofar in the south of Oman, the Ministry of Health, Department of  Obstetrics and Gynecology of Sultan Qaboos Hospital, Salalah, under the auspices of H.E. Sheikh Salim Bin Ofeit Bin Abdullah Al Shanfari, chairman of Dhofar Municipality organizes a two days International Conference on ‘High risk Obstetrics and a CTG workshop.’

Maternal and child safety is of utmost importance. Labor is the most difficult journey in life and must be monitored and managed properly. Certainly when there are high risks involved. One year ago there was the idea. Today and tomorrow the conference and the workshop are a fact.

150 female participants (only women in Oman can work in these fields) – doctors, nurses, midwives – from all over the Sultanate has the honor to listen to guest of honor ‘Sir Sabaratanam Arulkumaran,’ Emeritus Professor at St. George’s Medical School, University of London UK, President of British Medical Association and President of International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics. He is Editor-In-Chief of Best Practices and Research in Clinical Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 1998 and has over 260 indexed publications. Professor Sir Arulkumaran was appointed Knight Bachelor for his services to medicine in 2009 by Her Majesty the Queen.

Other guest speakers are: Dr. Anita Zutshi, since 1987 Senior Consultant at the Royal Hospital in Muscat. Her main interest has been management of high risk pregnancies. She has attended various training courses in India, UK and USA. ‘Dr. Veena Paliwal,’ Senior Consultant and head of the Department Obstetrics and Gynecology, Sultan Qaboos Hospital Salalah. Besides Dr. Indu Jonathan and Dr. Asma Al Ojaili, is she the main organizer of the conference and the workshop.
