Gathering (part 2)

Delightful food brings people together. During the holidays of  Eid al-Adha, the parish communities in Salalah, Dhofar in the south of Oman, celebrate their ‘10th Food Festival’ with delicious food, dance, music, games and even an auction. In Oman there are several houses of worship where non-Muslims – Christian, Hindus and others- can practice their religious rites in freedom and safety and with the protection of the law.

A small committee between 15 till 20 persons was one month busy with the whole organization. 75 participants were involved in the dancing and the singing. With the ‘Food Festival’ the communities gathered money to maintain the worship centers. For me it was an opportunity to gather with Indian and Filipino people and to learn more about their traditions.
