Most of Oman’s major craft industries are represented in Dhofar in the south. For more than ten years the Omani Women Association in Taqah in the east of Salalah organizes a six month courses in traditional handicrafts.
Every year, women can follow the courses to develop their skills in traditional handicraft. This can improve their income but it gives them also the opportunity to give the knowledge through to the next generations.
This year, forty women received a certificate of excellence. After a lecture, a short theatre play and a slideshow of the activities of the Omani Women Association in Taqah, an exposition with incense burners in pottery, palm leave products and silverware was inaugurated. The whole program and event was logistically supported by private and public organizations. They also received certificates of gratitude.
