For the second time, Taqah beach, will turn into a playground for a ten days huge ‘Taqah festival.’ The official start is Saturday 15 March, 4.30pm. More than 500 people are involved in the organization. And most of the work is done by volunteers.
In the former edition traditional music, dance and handicraft were highlighted. For this edition, a village in djebali architecture (the architecture of the mountain), a house linked with the history of Taqah, a children’s play area, an area for horse riding, traditional fisher boat racing, a fishermen area and an extra area for handicraft and traditional Omani food, is added.
The djebali village will give the visitors an inside in the daily life of the people in the mountains. Nearby the beach an existing house of 1942 was renovated in the original style. The house was used for the inning of taxes. In the future, there is the idea, to use the house as a museum about the fishing life. Taqah was and still is famous for sardine fishing.
