In Salalah, Dhofar, a copy of the speech of Sultan Qaboos to his people on the day of his accession on 23th of July 1970 hangs in the Museum of the Frankincense Land. On that day the modernization of the country took place. In Oman twenty three July is celebrated as the Renaissance Day. On the occasion of that day, this year, Thursday 24 of July is a national holiday for the private sector. By combining the holiday for the Renaissance Day with the weekend and the Eid Al Fitr holidays for breaking the fast, from July 27 till July 31, more Omani people will be able to visit the beauty of the Khareef, the south west monsoon in Salalah, Dhofar.
To be ready, the ‘Tourist and Service Sites Improvement Committee’, held yesterday a coordination meeting under the patronage of the Minister of Tourism. Beside the Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, the meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Municipality Dhofar and members of the committee, representatives of governmental agencies involved in preparing the Khareef festivities as the ‘Salalah Tourism Festival’ with related events to be held all across the wilayat such as Taqah, Mirbat, Mughsayl and the Al Hisn markt better known as the incense Suq. From the second day of Eid Al Fitr till the 6th of September more than 1200 craftsmen will showcase their skills under the theme “ Love for Oman gathers us.” Around 8000 people have been employed to work for the festival in various capacities. To guarantee the safety for the national and international visitors the plans of the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance were presented. Beside ‘Dhofar Traveler Oasis’ for providing the latest facilities to the tourists coming to Dhofar like last year, a new ‘Recreational field’ was opened in A’ Sa’ adah. The field includes ten areas for organizing events, services and exhibitions.
