Not only till the 17th of December, Salalah-Dhofar has an extra meeting point for locals and tourists. Today, in the Salalah Gardens Mall the ‘44th National Day Exhibition for Craft Industries in Dhofar’ was opened under the auspices of the Public Authority for Craft Industries (PACI) and Dhofar Governorate.
After the 14th of December locals and tourists can still admire the quality of the handicraft of Dhofar. In a glass panelled cabinet, in a beautiful setting, in the suq, the hand-made products are permanently on display. In a shop opposite the glass panelled vitrines the handicraft objects can be purchased. Also soon electronic via a website still in progress, the Dhofar handicraft can be ordered. This initiative is the first in this kind for Salalah. The exhibition, the suq, and the electronic email outlet are all fitting in the objectives of the Public Authority for Craft Industries. PACI was established in 2003 and represent an important part of culture in social and economic development of the Omani Society and is one of the most important tributaries of heritage inspired by the reality of the environment in Oman. In Oman 4775 people are involved in the craft industry. In Dhofar 2000 people are involved, mostly women.
“Our Crafts are our Wealth,” till the 14th of December in the Salalah Gardens Mall, Bank area. After the 14th of December the handicraft of Dhofar is permanent on display and can be purchased in the shop in the suq.
