Review of Taqah Third Festival

Taqah Third Festival part 1
The Opening Ceremony of the third Taqah Festival, that started on the 26th of March in Salalah-Dhofar and lasted till the 4th of April, honored the return of Sultan Qaboos from Germany to Muscat. Sultan Qaboos was being given treatment in Germany. Through traditional dances and music an Operetta showed on stage expressed first the feelings of sorrow during the absence of Sultan Qaboos and the joy the people felt when he gave a televised message about his health. And finally there is the return of His Majesty to Oman.

Variation :While the six-boat competition phase 1 was in action, one could test his or hers sugar level, and blood pressure in a branch of ‘Taqah Health Care,’ especially created for the festival. After being advised about a healthy lifestyle, a visit of the handicraft of Dhofar made by local women was more than worthwhile. Most of Oman’s major craft industries are represented in Dhofar. And in between, on stage, there is the traditional music. An Omani is accompanied by music from the cradle to the grave.

Music in the air : On the 4th of April Taqah Festival came to an end. During the whole festival traditional music and traditional dance where on display. It gave me the opportunity to make a photographic overview of instruments also used in more contemporary songs. I hope you enjoy the pictures as I enjoyed the whole Festival. I am already looking forward to next years edition.
