Watching the start of Khareef……….

While we are facing in La Roche-en-Ardenne, my hometown, high humidity, cloudy skies, and suddenly full sunshine, I received a picture of ‘Razat mountain‘ where my Omani friends watched the ‘Khareef’ entering into ‘Dhofar,’ in the south of the Sultanate of Oman. Khareef or south west monsoon is a combination of different natural elements and is linked with the large marine ecosystem of the Arabian Sea. Beside drizzle rain, low temperatures of 27 degree Celsius, there is always fog in the mountains. This phenomenon starts in June and ends beginning September. It turns a part of Dhofar into a green paradise of Eden.

” During the Khareef, particularly, the southwest monsoon wind, the quantities of fog precipitation are among the highest for any part of the world….” ( Miller 1994-www.wordwildlife.org)
