In Brussels, in the Art & History Museum, colorful road lines on the floor guides you through a collective symbolic system about beliefs, values and practices of cultures on which they were conceived. In this case the decline of the Western Roman Empire at the same time the beginning of a time of change. A feed-back chain between places connected by trade, believes, wars, climate change.
But be aware, the moment you enter the exhibition you soon realize that Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages (c.300 – 1000) show more similarities with our modern world. Even more. Beyond the ‘Crossroads’ you also experience a thin line of how women participated. And because I am a woman, I focused the thine line on the roads I crossed.
Crossroads till 29/03/20, Art & History Museum, Brussels.
